In betting baseball, most sports bettors ignore to consider the bullpen when making their bets. Although they make up 1/3 of the game, people for some reason do not readily consider the bullpen as part of their bet. In this article, the author hopes to elucidate the importance of the bullpen and several tips in betting baseball.
The bullpen comes into the game usually at the 6th inning mark (or later if the starting pitcher is doing well). The main job of the ‘pen’ is to take care of the lead, or if the team is loosing, to prevent any more scoring from happening. A good pen is invaluable, a bad pen is nothing to write home about. Teams who go far and deep into the playoffs are those teams that have solid bullpens.
Good starting pitchers who have a solid bullpen to back them will have better records than those who have a sub par pen. If an excellent pitcher who has a 1.00 ERA (earned run average) is backed by a bad bullpen, such a pitcher will almost always lose games. Therefore it is necessary to isolate teams with excellent bullpens.
In terms of betting, if two teams with excellent bullpens face each other, the under will be a good bet. This under bet will become stronger if both teams are struggling offensively. Good pitching and bad hitting is a good formula for a solid under bet. Bettors beware though. If a line looks too easy, it probably is (although in baseball tricky lines are less apparent than in the other sports of football, basketball, and hockey).
On the contrary bad bullpens are conducive to overs. Betting on the over in games that feature bad bullpens can be quite lucrative. If both teams have sub par bullpens and have excellent offensive prowess, then the over bet can be quite profitable. The totals line might be high, but is warranted in this situation.
On a side note, perennially good bullpens include the Angels, the A’s, the Twins, et cetera.
In closing, the bullpen is one angle most bettors ignore; but if used in part of the capping process, betting on the better bullpen in a contest will show profits in the long term.

Long seasons
This article will describe the agonies of a long season, in terms of the sports of baseball and basketball, and will hopefully edify the reader into making smart choices and picking the correct spots to bet on teams.
Baseball has the longest season of all the sports across the board. It currently has 162 games scheduled for the regular season, not including the playoffs during the fall. As such, players will certainly not be completely up for all these games. Traveling will also play a huge factor. Jet lag will add to fatigue, which will also add to disinterest into playing games. Knowing when to recognize such situations will help the sports bettor in the long run.
Basketball is also a very tedious season. It has 82 games over a span of almost 7 months (not including the playoffs, which takes about 3 months to complete). Such a sports is very demanding on the body; as such, players will also not be up for all the game in a season. It is up to the savvy sports gamblers to know this and know when to play on and against such disinterested teams.
During a long season, many factors arise such as family issues, health problems (including injuries), and general complacencies. If a team is not on a winning streak, its players usually just ‘clock in and out’ after every game. A sports bettor must be aware of this fact, lest he looses on such plays.
The long season is a grind, but if the savvy sports bettor plays on situations, rather than by statistics, then one can show profit by season’s end. Situational betting, thus, is the best way to bet on sports. Any team can beat another on any given day, but, if the situation calls for it, a ‘destined’ team will beat another on a specific day, given the right conditions.
Motivation can also play a major role in long seasons. In baseball, if a team is on a loosing streak, such a team will continue to loose its game (and vice versa). In the NBA (National Basketball Association), the end of the season is also a time for great motivation for teams jockeying for playoff positioning. Motivation is the key to winning games (and bets).
In closing, a long season is as such. Therefore the sports bettor must isolate specific situations where a team will be motivated to win and cover a game.
